Council of Stewards
Bluestem's nonprofit board is called the Council of Stewards, and provides oversight of the vision and mission for Bluestem. Stewards currently serving are community members specializing in the areas of law, end-of-life care, conservation, spiritual ministry, community building, nonprofit management and public health. The Council has approved both a set of bylaws and a constitution as foundational documents for operating Bluestem now and into the future. Read more about them below and reach out by emailing Bluestem.
Learning with Bluestem
D Bouchard (they, them) is a death doula who has chosen Bluestem as a site placement while studying at UNC's School of Social Work. D grew up in rural New England where they spent the majority of their adolescent years deep within nature and on the water. They moved to the Triangle area to pursue a graduate degree in social work at UNC, with a focus on macro death and dying and gerontology. D's practice is guided by Steven Jenkinson's principle that all of us are bound by the shared obligation of attaining a good death and that death offers us one of the most reflective perspectives in life. D will assist Bluestem on green burial outreach with the public, support of green burial services, liaison with the death care community, and the development of policies and operational systems. Reach out to D.
