A Place for EveryoneBluestem is a nature preserve and conservation cemetery, where nature is respected and preferences for natural burial are honored.
It will be open to all faiths and perspectives, both spiritual and cultural; where people can experience the sacred in nature and engage in natural burial. Every element of the nature preserve and cemetery is designed with the tenets of simplicity, utility, inclusivity and integrity. Individuals are returned to the earth simply and naturally, using only biodegradable products, such as wood caskets or cloth shrouds. Participants have the choice of selecting a burial site. Initially, burial options will be located in an open meadow. In the future, burial options will include reserved areas in woodlands and grasslands. Bluestem's conservation restoration program provides opportunities for family and friends to memorialize their loved ones with select native plantings, or with a financial contribution to further conservation efforts in the region. Management of the cemetery incorporates conservation practices such as providing connected lands for wildlife, protecting water sources with stream buffers, prescribed fire, and recreating native Southeast grasslands. Upon opening, the cemetery will include a gravel parking lot, an access road, and a hiking trail. In the future, a simple covered space for community gatherings is planned. Pricing for burial plots will be available in Spring 2021. Sign up here if you wish to be notified about pricing. |
