Green Burial at Bluestem
Burial at Bluestem is open to all – to people of any faith, to people with unique cultural traditions and to people without faith practices. Bluestem supports at-need and pre-need burial options. At-need burial arrangements are made at the time of death, most often by a surviving family member or trusted friend, on behalf of the deceased. Pre-need, also referred to as preplanning for burial, is arranged by the living. As part of its mission, Bluestem supports individuals wishing to finalize their pre-need burial plans. When Bluestem opens to the public in October 2022, individuals and families will be invited to purchase interment rights for burial. Purchasing a plot at Bluestem takes the burden of decision making off of your family and friends, allows you to engage in this beautiful sanctuary while you are alive and thriving, and becomes an investment in a healing space for the community.
Conservation Burial
Bluestem's conservation mission governs the size of each burial plot (20 x`15 feet) and requires that every person wishing to be buried at Bluestem, purchase one plot. Partners may choose to be buried in the same plot, however each must purchase a plot; the first will contain their burials, the second will serve to permanently conserve a piece of Bluestem, such as along the creek corridors, or in restoration areas unsuited for burial. The second plot is recorded with the purchaser's name and permanently removed from Bluestem’s inventory.
One plot accommodates either two full body burials or one full body and one cremated remains burial.
Pet Burial
Pets may also be buried in the same plot as their people. A separate burial fee will be charged for their interment. We are currently focusing on opening the cemetery for human burial. More details on pet burial will be available in the coming months.

Phase One Burial Areas
With over 25 acres of native grasslands and 55 acres of woodlands, burial options at Bluestem will be made available over a phased timeline. During Phase One, interested parties are invited to select plots in the currently open burial areas (see map below):
