Visiting Graves at Bluestem

We welcome your visit to Bluestem to remember your loved one or visit a plot.
Find
our GPS coordinate search system below and important information
about return visits. Let us know if you have any questions.

PREPARING FOR A VISIT
Bluestem is open to the public every day from dawn to dusk for walking, birdwatching, visiting graves, and quiet meditation. We recommend wearing bug repellent, comfortable clothing, and walking shoes, and bringing a water bottle as you visit the nature preserve. Park at the front and access the cemetery on foot. For mobility assistance, please contact us at least one week prior at [email protected] or (919) 300-4925 to schedule an appointment.

STEWARDING THE LAND
Graves are part of the regenerating ecosystems at Bluestem. They blend into the natural landscape of wildflowers, grasses, plants, and trees that support ecological life. We are grateful to every resident whose choice supports Bluestem's conservation mission, protecting this vibrant natural area long into the future. Help us care for the land by not clearing plant matter nor disturbing soil on or around a grave. To get involved with our volunteer land stewardship program, please sign up here.

FINDING A GRAVE
Use the search bar below to find GPS coordinates of a plot. Note that coordinates do not take you directly to a grave, but within 10 feet of the resident's plot. Every grave is marked by a metal pin with the resident’s name and dates. Markers at reserved plots have only a last name. Some families have chosen to place a gravestone in addition to the required metal gravemarker.

REMEMBRANCES
Visitors are welcome to pick wildflowers and to lay them or other simple, natural, biodegradable materials at gravesites in accordance with the cemetery's rules and guidelines. Bluestem welcomes tribute gifts in honor of loved ones to the Bluestem Community Fund or our Prairie and Piedmont Forest Restoration programs. Please find more information about donating here.
