A Place for You in Nature
Imagine a place where you can walk through a favorite forest, across a grassland, or along the edges of a babbling creek. The path in front of you winds its way past native plants and around the Diabase rocks so familiar to you, and to the Piedmont region. Trillium burst upward in the spring, leaves crunch under your feet in the fall, the scent of long leaf pines surrounds you.
Your peace and quiet are broken only by the sounds of your footsteps, the wind, the creek, and the Carolina Wrens singing from trees.
This is the experience we are building in a conservation cemetery, in the North Carolina Piedmont of Durham County. This is Bluestem.
As green burial advocates focused on protecting the natural features of our beloved Piedmont while connecting people to the outdoors, we are creating a cemetery that reveres the sacred in nature and allows for the least harmful way of disposing of human remains.
A place where:
This is Bluestem. A cemetery for natural burial located within a conservation property. A nature preserve with meandering pathways, simple sitting areas, and a trail system that traverses the property. A reflective space designed as a quiet, natural, final resting place. And a vibrant space designed for community activity and generations to follow.
Bluestem. Where nature is enough.
