Build the Wing of the Barn With Us

Join us in improving Bluestem's accessibility and sustainability with an extension on the Bluestem Barn — a project we are calling the "Wing of the Barn." The Wing of the Barn will be an open-sided, 20 to 30 foot extension of the roof on the western side of the barn with a natural floor. This extended covered space will provide:

• A more accessible, sheltered vantage point from which visitors with mobility needs can experience Bluestem.
• More covered gathering space with protection from the weather for burial services and community events .
• A place for the installment of a pledged donation of solar panels, taking Bluestem into the renewable energy future.

The Wing of the Barn will help us broaden our impact by better serving diverse community members, specifically by improving accessibility for those with mobility needs who may not be able to navigate Bluestem's gravel roads and trails with assistive devices like walkers and wheelchairs. At the same time, the Wing of the Barn project will contribute to Bluestem’s sustainability goals with the addition of solar energy to the property. 

In 2024, visitors and new donors contributed $60,000 toward this important project. In 2025, Bluestem Community is seeking donations to match this amount, enabling us to confidently break ground on Bluestem's new sheltered space.
