A Place for Everyone

Bluestem is a place of reverence.

It is a community open space for healing and worship in nature, with a conservation cemetery where nature is respected and the choice of natural burial is honored.

It is open to all faiths and perspectives, both spiritual and cultural, where families and friends are invited to experience the sacred in nature
.

Every element of the nature preserve and cemetery is designed with the tenets of simplicity, utility, inclusivity and integrity.

Individuals are returned to the earth simply and naturally, using only natural and  biodegradable products, such as wood caskets or cloth shrouds.

Families and friends are encouraged to craft their own celebration of life rituals and participate in the sacred act of burial.

Individuals have the choice of selecting their burial plot among reserved areas for burial.  Options are offered in restored native grasslands, select woodlands, and woodland edges, but not along the creeks. These areas are protected by water quality buffers.

Bluestem's conservation restoration program provides opportunities for family and friends to memorialize their loved ones with select native plantings, or with a financial contribution to further conservation efforts in the region.

Management of the cemetery integrates conservation practices such as prescribed fire,
restoring native Southeast grasslands, protecting water sources with stream buffers, and providing connected lands for wildlife.
