Green Burial at Bluestem

Bluestem is open for natural burial for people and for pets.
We recommend reviewing our Planning for Burial page as you are considering Bluestem.

When you are ready to begin the process with us, complete a Burial Preference Form.
You will then be invited to make an appointment for burial plot selection and to pay for your interment rights.
Burial arrangements are by appointment only.

Appointments are available for pre-planning.
Contact us directly if you need to arrange for at-need burial.

A burial at Bluestem is simple, natural and personal. It occurs without embalming, without metal or steel caskets, and without concrete vaults.

The practice of green burial invites families into participating in the sacred act of burying their loved ones. They can pick from burial areas in a conservation cemetery, choose their
own biodegradable burial container, plan their own service, engage a funeral home or a community of friends, arrange for their casket or shrouded body to be carried to the grave, invite friends and family into lowering it in the grave, as well as to close the grave with shovels of dirt.

At
Bluestem, we encourage families to participate in the burial process as much or as little as they like. We see participation as the beginning of the grieving process.
Burial at Bluestem is open to all – to people of any faith, to those without faith practices and to those with unique cultural traditions.

Bluestem supports at-need and pre-need burial options. At-need burial arrangements are made at the time of death, often by a surviving family member or trusted friend, on behalf of the deceased. Pre-need, also referred to as preplanning for burial, is arranged by the living.
To begin the process with us complete a burial preference form (below). You will then be invited to make an appointment to select a burial plot and purchase your interment rights. Purchasing a plot at Bluestem takes the burden of decision making off of your family and friends and allows you to engage in this beautiful sanctuary while you are alive and thriving. Your choice of a natural burial becomes an investment in this healing space for the community.

Pet Burial

Pets may also be buried in the same plot as their people. A separate burial fee will be charged for their interment. We are currently focusing on opening the cemetery for human burial. More details on pet burial will be available in the coming months. If you seek information on pet burial please contact us directly.
