Supporting a Community Grief Space

Providing a place in nature for families to honor their loved ones at the end of their lives is critical to Bluestem's mission. Since opening in November 2022, we have served over 200 families with natural burial services and educated thousands of volunteers and visitors on natural burial in a conservation cemetery in the Piedmont.

Your gift makes an impact in so many ways!
  • Supports individuals grieving loss
  • Protects and nourishes wildlife habitat
  • Enables access for visitors with mobility needs
  • Provides a covered roof for burial services
  • Releases people into the wonders of nature
  • Advances restoration of the fields and woodlands
  • Expands Bluestem's trail network
  • Appreciates our volunteers
  • And so much more!

"Never have I been taken care of by so many people in such a short period of time. I hope you know just how wonderful our burial service was. Without your hard work on Monday, and what you both envisioned 5 years ago, none of it would have been possible. I knew as soon as I saw Bluestem what I wanted to do if my wife predeceased me. All I had to do was fill in the blanks. As a conservation cemetery, and in the way you and your volunteers support the family, it gives us "permission" to be creative. Where else would my service have been possible? It would not have seemed "proper" if associated anywhere else but in nature."
